About Peter

Convinced that effective, local representation delivers the best outcomes for local communities through better public policies, I am a passionate supporter of Independent representation - by far the oldest form of community input into all levels of government since the very foundations of democracy.

Free from the shackles of factional politics both within and between all political parties, my sole responsibilities as an Independent Member of Parliament are to the electorate of Port Macquarie and to the state of New South Wales.

Happily married since 1993 to Meaghan, I have two wonderful (most of the time) children who are actively involved in a number of community organisations and activities, from soccer and touch football to school bands and photography. The importance of community and volunteer input has been the driving force behind my involvement in politics, having been President of the Port Macquarie Rugby Union Club and Vice-President of the Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club.

Prior to my involvement in politics, I played rugby union for NSW and was awarded the Ken Catchpole Medal as the best player in the 1999 Sydney Club Competition. I was also awarded the Australian Sports Medal for my services to community sport in the year 2000.
