$130,000 MOBILE POLICE COMMAND
Independent Member for Port Macquarie, Peter Besseling, says a sustained community campaign for greater police resources in the Manning-Great Lakes Local Area Command has been rewarded with a mobile police command.
"The Police Minister announced another 15 mobile commands today; one of which is heading to the Manning-Great Lakes LAC," Mr Besseling said.
"It's a fantastic win for smaller communities in the northern part of the police command, especially Harrington, where incidents of anti-social behaviour increase during the summer months when the community's population more than doubles.
"This has been an exercise in persistent lobbying for this mobile command, despite the earlier announcement that units were allocated to metropolitan centres just last month.
"The Manning-Great Lakes LAC is one of only two regional centres to be allocated this additional resource in the latest announcement, so it's an achievement worth celebrating.
"The new mobile command, which is expected to arrive by mid-April, is equipped with computer access to police databases, an interview room, local specific police radio, digital message boards and more.
"The vehicles are essentially a mobile police station that can operate 24 hours a day," Mr Besseling said.
