BESSELING CALLS ON MINISTER TO SUPPORT REGIONAL COMMUNITIES

Independent Member for Port Macquarie, Peter Besseling, has called on the NSW Police Minister to direct more police resources to regional communities, such as those served by the Manning-Great Lakes Local Area Command.

"The recent roll-out of 10 new Mobile Police Commands in what are essentially metropolitan centres is a good example of how areas such as Manning-Great Lakes are missing out on new, state-of-the-art equipment," Mr Besseling said.

"The area covered by the command includes more isolated areas such as Harrington, Moorland and Johns River which would certainly benefit from a mobile unit to provide a stronger police presence.

"Mobile Police Commands can be used for planned operations, command posts for major events such as Australia Day celebrations and for high visibility presence in crime hot-spots.

"Regional policing operations require the support of the latest equipment, on equal terms with metropolitan areas, and I therefore re-iterate my calls to the NSW Government to provide a Mobile Police Command to the Manning-Great Lakes Local Area Command as a priority," Mr Besseling said.
