CONCERT TICKETS FOR SENIORS

Independent Port Macquarie MP, Peter Besseling, is inviting residents over the age of 60 to contact his office for free tickets to the 2011 Premier's Seniors Week Gala Concerts in Sydney next month.

"There are long waiting lists for concert tickets because of the calibre of the entertainers who support the event, which is held every year as a 'thank you' to our seniors," Mr Besseling said.

"This year's concert, Great Hits of All Time, will be a walk down memory lane featuring the very best of popular music from the 1950s to the present day.

"The concert organisers are keeping the identity of the performers a surprise, but if past concerts are anything to go by, the audience will be charmed and delighted by those who take to the stage.

"The concert is one of the highlights of NSW Seniors Week, which aims to challenge some of society's stereotypes around ageing.

"The week, to be held from March 20 to 27, also serves to raise awareness of the valuable contributions seniors have made and continue to make to our community."

Mr Besseling said tickets were available at the electorate office, but he urged people to only apply if they could attend the Sydney event.

The concerts are scheduled for 10.30am and 2.30pm on Monday, March 21. Each concert runs for about one hour and 45 minutes and doors open 45 minutes prior to concert start time.

"Seniors who can't attend the Sydney concerts will still be able to celebrate their special week locally," Mr Besseling said.

"Our community attracted $1800 in grants to support Seniors Week events, including a gardening workshop to be hosted by Camden Haven Community College, Come Sing With Us sessions to be hosted by the Camden Haven Music Festival organisers, a special luncheon hosted by the Harrington Senior Citizens Association and an art exhibition, hosted by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, titled Postcards to my 18-year-old self."
