HIGHWAY NOISE REPORT DUE
A draft report into noise testing along the Pacific Highway at Moorland has been completed and the results are expected to be released by the end of the month.
The general manager of the Pacific Highway upgrade project, Mr Bob Higgins, provided Independent Member for Port Macquarie, Peter Besseling, with an update this week on the assessment, which was called for after some Moorland residents reported excessive traffic noise as a result of the highway upgrade.
"The data gathered during the testing period is now being assessed by two government departments, Environment and Planning. Once their modelling is complete, a final report will be made public, possibly within three weeks," Mr Besseling said.
"The Roads Minister has already assured me that there is a process for further amelioration works if the noise levels are found to exceed the targets established prior to the highway's construction.
"For affected residents, some of whom are experiencing sleep disturbance, the impending report could provide the data they need to convince the RTA to undertake further noise abatement works."
Mr Besseling said he would ensure Moorland residents had access to copies of the report as soon as it was released.
