INDEPENDENTS GET 1/3 OF COALITION HEALTH PLEDGE

Given the likelihood of a Coalition victory in the upcoming NSW state election, Independent candidates have already drawn major funding for their electorates from a Coalition that is widely regarded as the incoming state government, Member for Port Macquarie, Peter Besseling, said today.

"Yesterday's health announcements by the Leader of the Opposition, Barry O'Farrell, have been welcomed by regional areas across the state, particularly in Independent-held seats that are set to receive $292.5 million.

"This is a great example of how Independent electorates attract the attention of both sides of politics and is in stark contrast to the $10 million worth of commitments that have gone to National Party-held seats.

"One third of the NSW Coalition's $885 million hospital upgrade has been allocated to Independent electorates and shows that even prior to this upcoming state election, Independents are delivering for their communities," Mr Besseling said.

The funding pledge for Independent and National Party seats is:

Port Macquarie (Independent) Fourth Pod        $75 million
Tamworth (Independent) New hospital              $100 million
Dubbo (Independent) Redevelopment               $50 million
Forbes (Independent) Upgrade                         $25 million
Parkes (Independent) New hospital                  $42.5 million
                                                           Total: $292.5 million
                                                            Or 33% of health pledge

Northern NSW (Nationals) A regional plan        $10 million
                                                           Total: $10 million
                                                            Or 1.1% of health pledge
