Families and Community
- Support active community involvement in all aspects of community life;
- Act as a conduit between the community and local support services and government agencies;
- Encourage community input into proposed legislation and government regulations and address inadequate legislation through parliamentary processes;
- Support local community agencies who can work together for local and strategic planning outcomes to ensure that the needs of all community members can be addressed, such as adequate mental health services and practical support services for parents and their children;
- Encourage the establishment of community-based groups who support each other and the broader community through common, identifiable goals. Support existing groups to continue to be active;
- Work with sporting, community and recreational groups to encourage the inclusion of all age groups and abilities within their organisation;
- Improve accessibility for disadvantaged groups, including people with a disability or mental health illness, to services and the built environment within the local community. Assist community groups to participate in decision making and service delivery provided for them by the state government and funded support services;
- Ensure our local communities have opportunities for consultation, review and evaluation of current implementation and future policy development by state government and funded support services;
- Champion the cause of Universal Design Principles that support better access to the built environment, such as park benches, breakwalls, and other public facilities, for seniors and for people with disabilities.
- Look to fast track disability bus access for communities throughout the electorate.
