Environment

  • Work with local community groups to support good environmental outcomes for the protection, regeneration and restoration of public lands;
  • Encourage sustainable living principles, such as grey water re-use systems, rainwater tanks, solar panels, underground cabling, open space and bicycle/walking tracks, in new developments and land releases;
  • Support, where possible, local decision-making for developments through the use of environmental planning controls that reflect local community needs;
  • Work towards a review of the section 3a planning laws that deny the community the opportunity to have meaningful input into the development application process;
  • Support the Lord Howe Island World Heritage Status and the Lord Howe Island Act;
  • Actively endorse funding and participation in local environmental programs such as Dunecare and Landcare.
  • Support an Environmental Impact Statement on the reversion to “fresh water” of Lake Innes.
  • Support and encourage a co-ordinated plan of action for coastal erosion strategies across the electorate, particularly for Lake Cathie, that involves all levels of government;
  • Support a single, state-wide contact telephone number for NSW's various native animal rescue groups, such as FAWNA and Wires.
  • Recognise the unique heritage and social value of all public foreshores in the Port Macquarie electorate through involvement in the Plan of Management process.
  • Encourage an independent study that assesses the environmental, social and economic impacts of the most recent declared marine parks at Batemans Bay and Port Stephens/Great Lakes.
