Safe Community

  • Work with Local Area Commands to identify development strategies that target “areas of concern” in local communities;
  • Work with the region’s Local Area Commands to improve visibility and public access to local police forces;
  • Support improvements to police resources, budgets and staffing allocations to match the rapid population growth on the Mid-North Coast;
  • Support the principles of Community Based Policing, which is designed to maximise the value of local police resources. This will help reduce public anxiety by having police officers work with the community to provide visible policing through programs such as Neighbourhood Watch, volunteer policing, Point Zero safe partying and local community drug action teams working on reducing drug use;
  • Work with local police to develop ways to reduce the administration burdens on “on-duty” officers;
  • Work with the local Liquor Accord to promote activities that highlight prohibition of secondary supply of alcohol and identify risks facing young people who consume alcohol;
  • Encourage appropriate penalties for crime, which recognise the principle of deterrence for the offender and, by doing so, support the rights of our community to be as crime-free as possible;
  • Support and encourage initiatives that reduce domestic violence.
  • Support initiatives that encourage long-term police service and reduce stress-related sick leave.
