Small Business
- Assist businesses achieve better access to skilled employees and training opportunities for employees. Work with North Coast TAFE, schools and local job agencies to improve small business access to skilled workers and to training opportunities for their staff;
- Work with government to reduce the growing burden of red tape on small businesses in the areas of OH&S compliance, workers compensation and liability insurance premiums;
- Improve access to training opportunities for small business owners by working with local business groups and training centres to improve skill levels and to improve the administration and delivery of service for small businesses;
- Improve services to people seeking to create, expand or re-locate businesses to the area;
- Work with business groups and state and local governments to develop a broad retail strategy for areas such as Port Macquarie, the Camden Haven and Harrington. The impact of new retail developments within our electorate will place a greater importance in the getting our retail growth and sustainability strategies right;
- Continue to work with Events NSW and local government to support community events such as the Ironman, NSW touch football titles and Australian surfing titles, which bring much-needed tourism dollars into the area and great opportunities for local businesses to capitalise on the exposure that these events create;
- Encourage local state government departments to ensure that wherever possible they purchase products and services from local businesses;
- Support all local industries through consultation and representation where required;
- Encourage all government departments to adopt "plain English" policies that can be easily followed and adopted by small business.
- Support local groups to collectively bid for funding from state government to support innovation and growth of small to medium-size businesses;
- Acknowledge and support the strong growth of home-based small businesses on the Mid-North Coast;
- Encourage more government agencies to relocate their operations to the Port Macquarie electorate to support local businesses and provide local jobs.
